In 2011, three of Palmer Land Trust's Southern Colorado Conservation Awards recipients were ranching families. This provided a unique opportunity to showcase the story of ranch land preservation in Colorado and highlight how the conservation community's most effective tool for land and water protection--the conservation easement--is helping Colorado save its most important places.
The following films, created by Emmy Award-winning film producer Ginger Kathrens (Spirits of the Rainforest) and accomplished documentary filmmaker Cyd Cohn (Return), highlight the story of each award recipient. To better understand the incredible pressures faced by Colorado ranchers and the manner in which Colorado's conservation and agricultural communities are coming together to save ranch and farm lands, read the remarks that were made at the event about each film/award winner. Combined with the touching stories inherent in the films, the remarks by Palmer Land Trust President Linda Overlin and Executive Director Scott Campbell weave together a powerful and urgent case for conservation.
